Summary

Land Based Service Engineers and Technicians will carry out a range of tasks on machinery, plant and equipment specific to their sector. The job role ranges from routine maintenance to repairing mechanical faults. This requires a blend of skills, industry knowledge and disciplines. These may include performing service and maintenance, preparing equipment and components for repair according to procedures or written briefs, conducting routine machine operation and systems testing, and handing over machinery, plant and equipment to the control and use of others in the workplace. The industry will present technical challenges ranging from simple mechanics to diagnosing and repairing complex systems. These processes may take place in the workplace or on the customer’s site, requiring flexible working hours.

This apprenticeship is delivered in a joint group with Land Based Service Engineering Technicians, and Level 2 is covered in Year 1 (the first 16 months). Apprentices will complete all components to become Land Based Service Engineers and can then progress to the Technician standard. In Year 1 apprentices will learn to:

  • Perform routine service and maintenance operations
  • Prepare equipment for repair, such as cleaning, dismantling and reassembling machinery and their component parts according to procedures

Years 2-4 are completed on the Technician standard upon successful completion of the End Point Assessment. The course is delivered at our Easton campus.

If the apprentice is aged 22+ the government partially subsides the training costs and the employer will need to pay 5% of the costs. In the case of this course, the fee would be £900.

For an employer with more than 50 employees a 5% charge will be implemented regardless of the age of the apprentice which in this case would be £900.

A levy paying company will pay the full cost of the apprenticeship from their levy account which in this case would be £18,000.

Please note that course fees are to be paid by the employer and apprentices must not be asked to make a financial contribution toward their training.
