Summary

The course includes the theory behind sport, health, exercise and leadership complimented with practical activities to reinforce learning. It will test your sporting knowledge and your own practical ability by covering skills and theory based modules, whilst also developing your health and fitness and wellbeing understanding. Students on this course will study a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport, alongside some additional qualifications. The first year consists of 4 Units and is equivalent to 1 A Level with the addition of a Level 2 Gym Instructor certificate, which is currently awarded by the YMCA. The second year leads on to a second A Level and deepens skills and knowledge around key subject areas, with an additional sports industry qualification. Students who have achieved their Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification, will have the potential to progress to the YMCA Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification.

In addition to your main programme, if required, you will study English and Maths. Depending on your grades on entry, you will study either Functional Skills or GCSE's English and Maths. Please check our English and Maths page for further information.

Entry Requirements

Academic Requirements:-

  • Achieve 4 GCSE's at grade 4 or above, including English Language and Maths.

Additional Requirements:-

  • Completion of online ‘Easton Applicant Information Form’ via the QR Code
  • A reference
  • Attendance at a Curriculum Taster Day
  • Completion of Summer Task (which you will receive on your Taster Day).

Assessment

Assessment is varied and will combine a variety of methodologies including external examinations, assignments, presentations and professional discussion.

Progression

On successful completion of this course, you may progress to an alternative level 3 courses are also available at the College or a degree at a University or College. City College Norwich offers a BSc (Hons) Sport, Health and Exercise Science.

Career Progression

The sport and active leisure industry supports over 450,000 jobs in the UK. Over the last five years it has become a 20 billion industry and experts predict it will continue to grow faster than other sectors in the economy. This course will allow you to progress onto many careers which include sport and a gym instructor or leisure centre assistant, personal trainer, sport development, sports nutrition. Some of these careers will require further study at degree level. For further information about specific job roles please check the National Careers Service.

Fees

There will be costs for equipment, uniform and trips. These include: Approximately £100-120 for uniform and £20 course materials.

We are always looking at opportunities to provide additional experiences for students to assist in both their academic and personal development. Some of these trips may have costs attached to them, but will respective of the type of trip and what is involved (travel, ticket fees, overnight costs etc). We will try and provide as much advance warning as possible so that you can plan appropriately.
