What You Will Study

This T Level is perfect if you’re passionate about animals and want to understand the biology, physiology, and environmental factors that affect them. You will combine classroom learning with hands-on experience in industry placements, giving you the knowledge and practical skills to succeed in the animal care sector or progress to higher education.

Entry Requirements

  • Achieve five GCSEs at grade 6 or above, including English language, science and maths.
  • Completion of a taster day.

How You Will Be Assessed

Your progress will be assessed through a range of externally set and marked components designed to test both your theoretical knowledge and practical skills. These include:

  • Exam covering the common core – assessing your understanding of the essential knowledge shared across all T Levels.
  • Exam covering the Animal Science core – focusing on the scientific principles behind animal health and management.
  • Employer-set project – applying your knowledge to a real-world scenario, demonstrating problem-solving and professional skills.
  • Synoptic assessment – showcasing your ability to integrate knowledge and skills in practical situations.
  • Research project – investigating a topic in depth to develop analytical and scientific thinking.
  • Science knowledge test – ensuring you have a strong grasp of key scientific concepts.
  • 315 hours of industry placement – gaining hands-on experience in professional settings over the two years.

These assessments combine rigorous academic study with practical experience, preparing you for higher education and careers in the animal science sector.

Course Progression

After completing this T Level, you can progress to higher education courses such as animal science or animal health degrees, veterinary nursing or veterinary medicine pathways, zoology, wildlife conservation, or bioveterinary science programmes.

Where Your Course Can Take You

This qualification opens doors to careers including: Animal Technician, Laboratory or Research Assistant, Welfare Officer, roles in veterinary practices, research facilities, zoos, and conservation organisations.
