Summary
This is an introductory course, perfect for anyone wishing to establish the basics of stable management and horse care and can also be used to prepare for the BHS Grooms Pathway Stage 1 Care examination. This course wil give you the knowledge and practical skills when carrying out routine tasks, such as mucking out, bedding down and providing food and water. You will be asked to handle horses inside the stable and outdoors, apply and remove rugs, groom, lead a horse in hand and hold a horse for inspection.
After completing the unit you will:
- Be able to put on and adjust saddles, bridles and boots - as well as be able to clean tack
- Know how to lead a horse safely in a variety of environments and identify regular field checks
- Have an awareness for the after-work care of a horse and the different rugs they may need
- Have some understanding of horse behaviour and health and be able to recognise any abnormalities
- Be able to carry out routine stable management and horse care tasks including mucking out and grooming.

Course is 8 weeks on a Tuesday evening 6-8pm
In order to sit the exam you will need to have BHS Silver Candidate Membership or Gold Membership
Entry Requirements
Minimum age for this course is 16 years and is open to anyone wishing to improve their stable management skills and knowledge.
You will need to bring with you gloves, sturdy footwear, warm, waterproof clothing and note taking materials. You will also need a correctly fitting hat that meets the current BHS standards

£300.00.
Please note the cost of the course does not include the exam. The approximate cost of the exam is £140.00
