Summary
The purpose of this qualification is to enable learners to develop the knowledge and skills so they can engage, facilitate, educate and support clients in a gym or health club environment. By completing this qualification, learners will meet industry requirements to become a Gym Instructor.
To achieve the YMCA Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing, learners need to achieve the following units;
- K/616/7823 Anatomy and Physiology for exercise for exercise and fitness instructors
- M/616/7824 Providing a positive customer experience in the exercise environment
- K/616/7949 Lifestyle management and health awareness
- H/616/7951 Gym-based programme delivery and professional instruction
- D/616/7950 Gym-based programme planning and preparation
Course: Thursday evenings 5-8pm for 16 weeks at Easton College for practical - Tutorials maybe online or in person and self-study will be needed for the exam.
Dates: Starting Thurs 7th Nov 24 to 13th March 25 ( excluded the following Thursdays 26th Dec/2nd Jan/20th Feb)
Entry Requirements
Learners must be aged 19 plus. Ideally they should have some experience of gym-based exercises as participation in a variety of gym-based practical sessions will be required throughout the qualification. Learners should also have communication skills pitched at level 2 which can be developed during the course. Learners will be required to commit to self-directed study in order to achieve this qualification.
Applicants will be required to have an interview with the course leader before enrolment.
Assessment
A range of assessments will be conducted on this course. Learners will be required to do one exam (multiple choice test), multiple online assessments, a portfolio of evidence and three practical observations.
Progression
This Level 2 qualification can lead to employment as a gym instructor. This qualification can also lead to further training at the same or higher levels including: level 2 award in group exercise instructing and Level 3 diploma in personal training.
