Summary
This Skills Bootcamp is delivered to a level 3 standard and is non-accredited for theory, practical and planting but accredited for chainsaw and felling qualifications (CS30 and CS31). The programme encompasses all the key skills required to work and manage a woodland for those looking to work in the industry as well as upskill Tree Surgeons with underpinning knowledge and skills on how to restore woodland and manage them.
On this course you will cover the following:
- Plant trees and shrubs
- Establish trees and shrubs
- Understand the aftercare requirements of trees and shrubs
- Understand the historical development of woodland
- Survey the structures and features within a woodland ecosystem
- Understand the management of woodland habitats
- Manage woodland habitiats
- NPTC L2 Certificate in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting (CS30)
- NPTC L2 Certificate in Felling small trees up to 380mm (CS31)
- Under pinning knowledge of Lantra Basic Tree Inspection ( you may have the option to do the qualification at an additional charge)
Dates- Thurs and Fridays( for majority of the weeks, although it does vary) 9.00-4pm spread over 11 weeks ( You will need to be able to commit to the whole 11 weeks) + 2 days outside of the course for assessments for CS30 and CS31
You will be required to have a level of fitness and strength and will need to purchase PPE prior to starting the course.
As some of the learning is offsite you will need your own transport.
Entry Requirements
- You must be age 19+
- Have the right to work in the UK/have a National Insurance number
- Not be enrolled on other funded training such as an apprenticeship, higher education, kick-start, re-start
- Be a current resident in Norfolk or Suffolk
- Have lived in the UK/EU for at least 3 years or have the right to live and work in the UK
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course you will have all the necessary skills for those looking to work and manage a woodland and be work ready. Part of the requirement of the course is to track and monitor your progression to successful employment or evidence of being self-employed using your new skills and knowledge. For those already working in the industry evidence of a promotion using your new skills if employed or if self-employed evidence of how you are using your new skills.
Assessment
For CS30 and CS31 you will be externally assessed by NPTC at a separate time outside of the training dates and will received the qualification certificates directly.
On successful completion of the course you will also receive a College Certificate of attendance with the modules covered.

This course is Free for learners age 19+ - please check entry criteria.
For employers wishing to put employees on the course - If you have 249 employees or less you will pay 10% of the overall cost which equates to £157.00 per employee.
