How to sow your wildflower seeds
You can sow your wildflower seeds wherever there is a patch of earth. Wildflowers don't need a lovely flower bed to grow in - in fact most wildflowers prefer growing in places where other plants don't want to grow, like a rough corner of a garden or playground.
- Make sure you ask first before sowing your wildflower seeds.
- You can plant them any time from spring to autumn but your wildflowers might wait for the next spring before making an appearance.
- Dig your soil over a bit, remove any weeds and grass, break up the big lumps then rake it level if you can.
- Don't add fertiliser or compost - your wildflowers prefer to do without.
- Sprinkle your seeds on the earth as thinly as you can, not all in one place.
- Water your seeds when you've sown them.
- Watch for your wildflowers to start growing.
If you don't have a place to sow your seeds you could get a flower-pot or a seed tray and grow them in that. Bees and other insects will find your flowers wherever you grow them!
