Summary
The qualification is designed to equip students with the necessary skills to gain employment within the Arboricultural, Forestry, Woodland management and Environment sector. Skills are developed in classroom session, practical participation, site visits and real-life work scenarios. The course is made up of a selection of both practical and theory subject units. All subject units build upon and complement each other so students are always progressing. Subject units include: Tree Inspection and Surveys, Advanced Arboricultural Skills, Plant and Soil Science, Chainsaw operations, Tree Establishment and Aftercare.

Entry Requirements
A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English, Maths and Science or a Level 2 Diploma at Merit or above plus English and Maths at grade 4 or above or equivalent.
Assessment
The course is assessed with a mixture of practical and written tasks throughout each year. This includes Synoptic assessments (60%): A selection of project’s that require practical demonstration accompanied by recorded justifications. A typical example of a synoptic task would be to ‘Survey a woodland and produce a report on how to increase its biodiversity’. There is also an end of year exam (40%). Both Synoptic and Exam assessments must be passed to achieve this qualification.
Progression
On successful completion of this course you may wish to progress on to a degree level course or Apprenticeship in a related subject. Alternatively you may gain employment in the industry.

Fees
If you are a UK or home fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free. If you are aged 19 and over please contact the Advice Shop
