What You Will Study
Spend the day learning traditional willow basketry and create your own beautiful and practical round shopping basket. During this hands-on workshop you will work with two different types of willow to add texture and decorative interest while learning the key techniques needed to construct a sturdy basket.
You will be guided step-by-step through the basket making process, including pairing, waling, French randing and creating a rod border. You will also learn how to add and wrap a strong handle to complete your basket.
Some previous basketry experience is helpful, but beginners are very welcome as the tutor will demonstrate each stage clearly and provide support throughout the day.
Please bring secateurs and a sharp knife if you have them, although spare tools will be available to borrow on the day.
By the end of the workshop you will leave with a finished round shopping basket and the skills to continue exploring willow basketry at home.
This one-day workshop will run on a Saturday from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
