Summary
If you have an interest in developing skills and understanding in working with and supporting children and young people with additional needs and disabilities, and their families, this could be the course for you. Students will be offered the ability to gain insight into many of the disciplines associated with supporting children and young people with additional needs and disabilities including diagnosis and developing, historical, cultural, social, and political attitudes and values, exploring behaviour, care and education, transitions and how to promote independence, assistive technology, health, inclusion, rights, creative practice, and innovation in the field.
We are committed to employability and career management and this course will develop knowledge and understanding required for a range of careers in this field with specific modules linked to developing strong professional practice and leadership skills.
To support this, students will be encouraged to develop their individual interests through subject specific assessments and research. In addition, the course provides a strong base for students to continue into further study at master’s level.

Entry Requirements
Entry requirements will be 80 UCAS points for those students under 21 years of age. Applicants over 21 years of age, who do not have relevant UCAS points, will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis but should demonstrate evidence of an appropriate qualification, experience in the field or a strong interest. Any applicants not deemed suitable due to lack of qualifications, for example, will be signposted to alternative progression routes or referred to the Advice Shop for support.
Applications from students whose first language is not English are welcome. For International students we require evidence of proficiency in English (including writing, speaking, listening, and reading), the required minimum is: IELTS Academic (SELT) 6.0 overall (minimum 5.5 in all components). Assessment
Assessments are varied and innovative and are aimed to develop transferable skills to support employability. They include essays, journals, individual and group presentations, academic posters, reports, portfolio building, project work, professional discussion, examinations, infographics, and exhibitions.
Feedback is an essential element of the teaching and learning process and as such feedback is provided both informally through formative activities, and formally for summative assessments.
Progression
Academic Progression could include a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) or teacher training equivalent, PGCert Special Educational Needs Coordinator, Masters/MEd in Inclusion/Special Education Needs, Additional Needs and Disability or similar Level 7 programmes.
Career Progression
Career destinations could include special education teaching, social work, children’s services roles, educational or developmental psychology, occupational therapy, counselling, applied behaviour analyst, speech-language therapy, or mediation.
Fees
£9,250 per year (for UK students)
For international students (students from outside of the UK), fees are set at £14,335 per year
